I do a lot of thinking when I am breastfeeding especially at the ungodly hour ones!
I also read some random things … the 2016 World Happiness Report. Did you know that Denmark received the top prize for the 3rd time?
So, what makes the Danes the most happiest in the world?
Without boring you with all the nitty-gritty of the report, I found one particular interesting fact about the Danes. They embrace, encourage and acknowledge the importance of fathers spending quality time with their families at each child’s birth so much so that they are entitled to 32 weeks of parental leave. WOW … How about that?!
Okay, I do realise for some this extra time with hubby around the home would be a gift from heaven and for others this actually may lead to more work and stress around the house. For me, I would relish in the extra pair of hands. Mind you, I do have a very helpful husband and doting Dad!
So back to my thinking … if the Danes outwardly acknowledge the Dads, why don’t we?
Everyone likes to feel important, and unfortunately more often than not and sometimes without precedence, Dads find themselves further down the order of priority. Not forgotten about, just less energy can be spent in their direction.
Today make it your life’s purpose to say ‘thank you’ to your incredible partner for everything he or she does and everything they don’t do for those are the moments that we grow stronger. Never forget that without them we wouldn’t have these gorgeous little cherubs to brighten our day.
As my first step to becoming more like a Dane and embracing the importance of fathers, I am encouraging my husband to pick up the computer once a month and share something, anything that he thinks would be helpful for other dads, dad-to-be's and even we mothers. It is a bit of a mystery knowing what is happening in their brains and yes, I think they are important and deserve the opportunity to be heard.
Let’s embrace BellaBott Papa. Look out for his words of wisdoms – whether they be few or plenty. Let this Papa be the voice and let’s listen to what the men have to say.
… and let’s give the Danes some competition for 2017.
Feel free to share as this may help someone.
