I don’t know about you, but my breasts have sagged after breastfeeding!

Chances are if you have been pregnant or breastfeeding that your breasts have sagged and sunk.

With 3 kids under my breasts (excuse the pun) I can definitely admit that pregnancy and breastfeeding definitely increased my breast size. But after 3 + years of breastfeeding my once fuller breasts are now empty potato sacks.

What can cause breasts to sag and shrink?

  • The hormonal changes throughout pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Age
  • Smoking
  • Higher Body Mass Index
  • Larger breasts prior to pregnancy
  • Having more than one child
  • Your Gene pool (SORRY)

Your breasts have sagged after breastfeeding, why?

Throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding your breasts will naturally fluctuate in size. When your breasts are at their fullest, the skin and ligaments are stretched. So, when you finish breastfeeding/your milk dries up, your breasts look saggy and deflated as the once taught skin is now stretched.

What can be done to reduce the sagging and to restore our former glorious breasts?

Unfortunately, nothing is a certainty when it comes to trying to reduce the sagginess of your breasts after experiencing pregnancy and breastfeeding.
The following 7 tips may give you some hope in preventing and restoring your beloved breasts.

  1. Eat a diet high in saturated fats and arachidonic acid
    This will help your breast tissues stay elastic, retain moisture and have healthy junctions between skin cells.

  1. Exercise
    Behind your saggy breasts are pectoral chest muscles. The more you exercise your pectoral muscles the more you tone these muscles and firm and lift your breasts.
  1. Stimulate blood flow
    The fluctuation in breast size through pregnancy and breastfeeding damages breast tissue cells. Massaging your breasts will help stimulate blood flow and encourage tissue and muscle repair.
  1. Throw away your maternity bras
    While maternity bras are super comfy, they don’t offer the support and lift that is required for your breasts. It is thought the more supportive your bra, the more likely your breasts will turn on their muscle memory.
  1. Pamper your breasts with Fenugreek
    A herbal supplement that can help increase the size of smaller breasts after breastfeeding, tighten sagging skin and smooth out breast skin.
    Rub Fenugreek paste (add just enough water to ¼ cup powdered Fenugreek to form a paste) onto your breasts and allow to sit for up to 10 minutes. Repeat a few times a week.
  1. Slowly wean
    The slower you wean your baby the less damage to skin tissue and the more time your breasts have to return to pre-baby breasts.
  1. Wait 6 months
    The easiest step of all. At approximately 6 months after finishing breastfeeding your empty breast tissues that were once filled with milk, will/may be replaced with fat – giving a firm, fuller feel.
