In the beginning … everything is new.
The same goes for knowing what items are essential for a new mother.
Breast pads are essential!
Let me break it down for you.As a mother, the body naturally makes milk to feed your newborn, whether you are breastfeeding or you choose not to. Overtime your milk will dry up if you are not using it – that does not mean your breasts will smell like rotting milk – the milk just disappears into our systems.
When the milk is in your breasts you can have spontaneous and uncalled for milk letdowns which means milk freely flows down and escapes through your nipples.
Now this can happen when you are breastfeeding, when you hear your child cry, when it should be feed time – you get the picture … it HAPPENS!
So, what do you do to protect yourself from an unprompted wet t-shirt competition?
The solution … Breast Pads.
Breast pads simply slip over your nipple and inside your bra. Easy peasy.
The most economical and environmentally option when choosing breast pads is to purchase re-usable breast pads.
BellaBott has created luxurious and super absorbent bamboo Breast Pads that will accommodate the heaviest milk letdown. They also protect your sensitive nipples and reduce your carbon footprint by up to 40%. Awesome!
How often do you need to change breast pads?
Breast pads should be changed every feed time especially if the breast pad is wet.
Leaving a wet breast pad inserted could allow bacteria to grow which may lead to infections or create sensitive nipples.
I started with 8 pairs of breast pads to get me through breastfeeding a newborn full time .
On a side note … I am about to go on holiday and being a practical person my BellaBott breast pads need to stay home because I won’t have access to any washing facilities. Sad face. While there are truly some horrible disposable breast pads out there, (a blog topic on its own) I came across bamboo disposable breast pads, literally 30 mins ago.
They tick a lot boxes for me as an alternative to my BellaBott breast pads. I’ll let you know how I go.
Feel free to share as this may help someone you know.
